The web pages on the SRCMBC web site are closely based on php page templates originally written by Helen Snaith, Sheldon Bacon, Peter Taylor, and others, at the National Oceanography Centre (NOCS) in Southampton. NOCS (pictured left) is a collaborative Research Centre owned by the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and the University of Southampton. One of the world's leading Oceanography Research Centres, it is based in a purpose-built waterside campus at Empress Dock, and is home to some 520 research scientists, lecturing support and seagoing staff as well over 700 undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The UK's ocean going research ships, RRS Discovery (above) and RRS James Cook (right), are based at NOCS. SRCMBC members wanting more information about NOCS, or to tour the Centre, should contact Peter Taylor who, before retirement, was a research scientist at NOCS specialising in the interactions between the atmosphere and the ocean. He is now a "Visiting Research Fellow"... which is a posh way of saying that he no longer gets paid for anything he does!
