Ships and Sailing Links

This is a new (August 2009), experimental feature aimed, on the one hand, at featuring ships that members have sailed on in the past, ships from past days, etc., and on the other hand, yachts and sailing related topics. As such we hope it will grow to reflect members boating interests from sailing dinghies to ocean going ships. Members, please give me your content! At the least tell me which ship(s) you served on and I'll invent an entry for you!

As usual, the SRCMBC/SRCMYC is not responsible for any content on external sites! They will open in a new window or tab depending on your browser settings.

Well, not exactly "going to sea" but Andy Davis worked for Vosper Thorneycroft Ship Repairers on annual refits of liners, the Red Funnel tugs and ferries, plus many more. He also spent two years building Mark 10 Frigates. Andy's Comments.
Arthur Page was a pilot in the Fleet Air Arm on carriers HMS Victorious (left... view the HMS Victorious Association web site) and HMS Striker. In later years he has taken to cruise ships. Arthur's Comments.

David Boothroyd was with Lamport and Holt, and then on Esso's fleet of tankers before moving on to various shore positions with Esso. Since retiring, to date he has cruised on the QE2, Norway (ex France) and most of P&O. David's Comments.
David McNair-Taylor was a Lieutenant-Commander on HMS Kirkliston; view the Ton Class Association web site.
With Kids and Mortgages out of the way, John Branson and his Wife took to cruising some 8 years ago and since then they have cruised every year to various places in the world. You could say 'they got the bug'. John's Comments.
As an Oceanographer, Peter Taylor, went to sea on various research ships, albeit only for around 4 to 6 weeks at a time. Some brief comments on the ships are available here.

Yachting and Sailing sites

Clyde Skippered Charters: Stephen Maughan contacted us about this new business based at Clyde Marina, Ardrossan on the Firth of Clyde, offering skippered charters, mileage building trips, scenic cruises and practical training on "Damsis" their Bavaria 44 yacht. Their calendar page gives availability and prices.
Seafly Sailing Dinghy: Here your webmaster, Peter Taylor, must declare a vested interest. The photo is actually my present boat moored at my jetty. I thought it had been one of the last built but I've recently (August 2009) discovered that new boats are available. The Seafly is a superb sea boat, much lighter, more stable, and faster than a Wayfarer, I sailed one off the North Wales coast for several years in my youth and never capsized by accident... (more).
